BfN-Schriften 663 - Management measures for static net fisheries in the German Baltic Exclusive Economic Zone

Oceans
BfN-Schriften
Static net fisheries can pose a threat to various protected species, particularly different marine mammal and seabird species, when the animals get entangled in the nets and drown as unintended bycatch. This document provides information on the scientific background on the subject of bycatch, underlines the urgent need for sound measures that can effectively reduce bycatch of sensitive species from a nature conservation point of view, and proposes regulations for static net fisheries in order to protect sensitive species in the German Baltic Exclusive Economic Zone.
