Federal Biological Diversity Programme

Biodiversity loss has been progressing on a dramatic scale worldwide for many years. As species, genes and habitats disappear, nature is depleted, thereby endangering and in some cases destroying resources vital to human life. It is therefore vital that ongoing biodiversity loss be halted.

With the aim of conserving and protecting biodiversity in Germany, the Federal Biological Diversity Programme was launched in 2011 and has since aided implementation of the National Strategy on Biological Diversity. It promotes projects which are declared to be of national importance under the Strategy or are seen to serve the Strategy’s implementation in an especially exemplary and benchmark-setting way.
