Alpine and subalpine calcareous grasslands
Natural and near-natural alpine and subalpine swards on calcareous substrates. These include calcareous meadows (Caricion ferrugineae) on deep soils, alpine calcareous Sesleria meadows (Seslerion variae) on shallow calcareous soils, and on windy mountain ridges the wind edge Kobresia myosuroides swards (Elynetalia) with transitions to the calcareous snowfield communities (Arabidetalia caeruleae).
Notes on habitat mapping
The criterion for the delimitation of this habitat type is the presence of vegetation of the syntaxa given above. Examples containing considerable proportions of shrubs or dwarf shrubs should, where appropriate, be considered under the habitat type Alpine and boreal heaths (4060) or under scrub and krummholz formations of the subalpine zone with Pinus mugo or Rhododendron hirsutum (4070).
