Applying for a CITES permit
Please submit your application for a CITES import or export permit or re-export certificate electronically through the "CITES online" system using the online application forms provided, or by postal mail using a printout of the form (pdf file) to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN).
The permit forms are supplied by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and charged to you as part of the costs of issuing the permit.
The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation provides the CITES-online system to enable on-screen completion and electronic submission of applications to import and export animals and plants protected under the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Applications may be submitted with or without a qualified digital signature.
You will be guided through the steps in the application procedure. Firstly we inform you about the requirements. Then you can decide whether to submit the application electronically through CITES-online or to download it in pdf format, to be completed and returned to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation by postal mail. If you choose CITES-online, the software will guide you through the remaining sequence of steps in the application procedure.
If you have obtained an import permit and wish to apply for a certificate of exemption from the ban on commercial use for Annex A specimens, which are intended for sale immediately after import, please click here: Apply for a certificate.
